Using Rentakoto Messaging

Communicate directly with your landlord or tenant through the platform.

Where to find the messages section

Click the Messages icon in the top navigation bar or go to /messages directly. Your conversation list shows all active threads, grouped by contact.

Who you can message

Messaging is available only between parties on the same contract or viewing. You can message:

  • A landlord whose property you have booked a viewing for or applied to
  • A tenant with whom you have an active or pending lease

You cannot send unsolicited messages to users you have no connection with on the platform.

Sending and receiving messages

Type your message in the input field at the bottom of the conversation and press Enter or click Send. Messages are delivered in real time. You will receive an in-app notification and email when you have an unread message.

Keeping a record of important communications

All messages are stored permanently for the lifetime of the tenancy relationship. If you discuss anything important (maintenance timelines, agreed repairs, payment arrangements), do it through the platform so there is an auditable record.

What messaging is NOT for

  • **Urgent safety emergencies** — call emergency services (police, fire, ambulance) first
  • **Maintenance requests** — use **My Leases → Request Maintenance** to log a formal request with tracking
  • **Disputes** — if direct communication has broken down, use **My Leases → Raise Dispute** to start a formal process

Using the correct channel ensures your issue is tracked and resolved properly.

Privacy

Messages are stored securely and are only visible to the two parties in the conversation. Rentakoto support may review messages in the context of a dispute or abuse investigation, in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
